What Are Dysport Injections?
Dysport uses the neurotoxin botulinum toxin A in a purified form. In small quantities, this neurotoxin is effective at relaxing muscles by blocking nerve signals that cause contraction. For frown, or glabellar, lines between the eyebrows, Dysport injections can relax the glabellar muscles and smooth the “11s” on the brow. Dysport injections can be performed in a short office visit, usually about 15 minutes, for the treatment of frown lines.
Dysport has similar effects as Botox – both are FDA-approved for frown lines treatment. They are slightly different in their molecular structure and the proteins used are also different. Dysport has smaller molecules than Botox, which means the effects often appear quicker, usually within three days. Results last for 3-4 months before the muscle begins to function normally again.
Some patients are better suited for Dysport versus Botox.
